What are Gavel Clubs?
Gavel clubs are a way of providing the Toastmasters experience to groups who may be ineligible for regular membership due to member age, inability to pay dues or other circumstances. Following similar Toastmasters club meeting protocols, they use club officer titles and education manuals. However, gavel club members are called “Gaveliers”. Gavel clubs also provide Toastmasters members and clubs with an excellent opportunity for community service.
Eligibility Criteria for Gavel Clubs
To form a Gavel Club, a group must meet all of the following criteria:
-

-
Must not be eligible to charter as a regular Toastmasters club
-
May include members who are under 18
-
Must have the approval or endorsement of its host institution;
-

-
Must apply to Toastmasters International for a Certificate of Affiliation
How to start a new gavel club?
To obtain the paperwork needed to start a Gavel Club, email TMI at newclubs@toastmasters.org requesting with supporting reasons to start a club.
You will need the Gavel Club name, and Gavel Club officers list to complete the paperwork.
A list of new officers will need to be sent to TMI every 6 months when new officers are elected. If the club counsellor changes, it will also need to be reported to TMI.
